Incidetective

Exploring how backend engineers can investigate service incidents by organizing logs, evidence, and findings.

The problem

Investigating service failures often means working through logs, identifying relevant events, and collecting evidence before understanding what went wrong.

Incidetective is a learning project focused on making that investigation process more structured.

Technical approach

The project uses TypeScript and Node.js, with an emphasis on separating incident data, log evidence, and investigation logic.

Automated tests help verify the expected behavior, including keeping evidence associated with the correct incident.

Project goals

The longer-term goal is to support searching synthetic logs, assembling investigation reports, and experimenting with optional AI-assisted analysis.

The project is still in development, so these goals should not be interpreted as completed features.
